UHMW (Polyethylene) Redco™ Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) has extremely low moisture absorption, a very low coefficient of friction, is self lubricating and is highly resistant to abrasion (10 times more resistant to abrasion than carbon steel). Redco™ UHMW plastic is known for its durability, machinability, versatility and cost-effectiveness. Virgin UHMW is FDA compliant and is used in applications where high levels of friction are likely to arise including chain channel, wear strips, belt scrapers, guides, and rollers. Redco™ UHMW can be machined into virtually anything from small bearings to large sprockets and liner systems. Due to an extremely low coefficient of friction, its inherent lubricity minimizes friction resulting in a smooth, noiseless operation.

HMW PE 500
Redco™ HMW PE 500 or High Molecular Weight Polyethylene is used as a wear or abrasion resistant component on conveyors, chutes, troughs, tension bars and liners. Being lightly ‘softer’ than UHMW, HMW PE is often specified for cutting boards because it does not blunt the knives as quickly and is food approved. Typical applications of High Molecular Weight Polyethylene 500 grade: for use with food contact particularly trap and preparation surfaces (food boards, butchers blocks, food machinery/production parts, dough scrapers, food board racking, catering display) It is readily available in many colors and supplied as High Molecular Weight Polyethylene sheets, High Molecular Weight Polyethylene plastic parts precision engineered to your specifications, chopping boards and butchers block.
Redco™ VHMW or Very high molecular weight is an excellent choice as an interim material, fitting nicely in it’s properties between HDPE and UHMW. It provides considerable cost savings over UHMW, while offering similar performance characteristics. Redco™ VHMW is a good choice when increased durability, abrasion resistance and performance is required vs. HDPE, but the properties of UHMW are more than the application requires. Typical Redco™ VHMW applications include: conveyors, chutes, cargo hold linings, washers, gaskets, and bushings, deep-freeze applications, electrical insulations, punching operations and mining industries. Redco™ VHMW is environmentally stabilized, making it ideal for indoor or outdoor applications. It is both FDA and USDA approved, with an opaque, white color for a sanitary look. Redco™ VHMW is suitable for seep freeze or electrical insulation operations, it’s resistant to caking and bridging build up and is an extremely flat and low strain sheet. Additionally, Redco™ VHMW is not affected by most aqueous acids, alkalis or salt solutions. Compared to UHMW, it is smooth, non-skived finish has a low friction coefficient for better material flow and superior cosmetics. Standard sheet sizes from 1/8″ to 1″ in thickness – with some of the tightest tolerances in the industry. Available standard in 48″ x 120″ sheets or in custom sizes up to 72″ wide and up to 120 feet long, which often saves on installation costs and eliminates the need for splices.
Redco™ Polyurethane is a thermoset elastomeric material possessing unprecedented physical properties. It offers toughness and durability far beyond the range of most rubbers and plastics. One of the most unique characteristics of this material is its broad hardness range, from eraser-soft to bowling ball hard. The hardness of polyurethane is governed by the molecular structure of the prepolymer and not by the addition of plasticizers or fillers. Polyurethane combines the toughness of metal with the elasticity of rubber and has the ability to withstand the most severe abuse. Due to its remarkable impact and abrasion resistance, parts made from polyurethane elastomers will often outwear rubber, plastic, and metal by margins of 20 to 1.
Other important characteristics include extremely high flex life, cut resistance, load bearing capacity (2500 PSI for Redco™ 750, Redco™ 750XL, and Redco™ 750SXL) and outstanding resistance to weather, ozone, oxygen, and radiation. It performs well from -80 F to +200 F and has excellent resistance to oil, gasoline, and most solvents. Costly down-time and maintenance expense can be avoided by substituting polyurethane for materials that are not performing to satisfaction.
Redco™ Nylon offers high load bearing capabilities (up to 4000 PSI), light weight, self lubricating and a low co-efficient of friction. Redco™ Nylon is easily machined and is an outlasting, outperforming replacement for traditional metals and other plastics. Redco™ Nylon’s toughness, low coefficient of friction and good abrasion resistance make it an ideal replacement for a wide variety of materials from metal to rubber. Using Redco™ Nylon reduces lubrication requirements, eliminates galling, corrosion and pilferage problems, and improves wear resistance and sound dampening characteristics. It also weighs only 1/7 as much as bronze. Acetal & PET
Redco™ Acetal & Redco™ PET brings together the benefits of strength, stiffness, low coefficient of friction, and dimensional stability providing a versatile and easily machinable material that exceeds the life of many parts that are traditionally metal.
Redco™ PET is a popular within the food and beverage industry. PET is preferred in applications because of its strength, thermo-stability and transparency. It also withstands environments with a constant temperature of up to 230°F and is not affected by frequent chlorine wash downs.
Redco™ Acetal is suited for a variety of industries and applications. It acts as an electrical insulator, is FDA Approved for food applications and is an excellent material for use in applications requiring close-tolerances. Acetal withstands environments with a constant temperature up to 180°F.
Redco™ Sustarin® C XDT is available as a food grade acetal that is X-Ray visible for food processing purposes.
Redco™ PTFE (Polytrifluoroethylene) offers outstanding properties making it the ultimate choice due a multitude of applications. Redco PTFE has the lowest coefficient of friction, no water absorption, is self lubricating, has excellent chemical resistance and a high temperature tolerance (+500F). Redco™ PTFE is very non-reactive, and so is often used in containers and pipework for reactive chemicals. Its extremely high bulk resistivity also makes it an ideal material for fabricating long life electrets, useful devices that are the electrostatic analogues of magnets. As well, because of its extremely low coefficient of friction, it is used for applications where sliding action of parts is needed: bearings, bushings, gears, slide plates, etc. In these applications it performs significantly better than nylon and acetal; it is comparable with ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), although UHMWPE is more resistant to wear than PTFE.
For these applications, versions of PTFE with mineral oil or molybdenum disulfide embedded as additional lubricants in its matrix are being manufactured. Other varieties available: PVDF (Poly-Vinylidene Fluoride), Fluorosint, FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene), PCTFE (Polychlorotrifluoroethylene), and ECTFE (Thylene-Chlorotrifluoroethylene).

Redco™ HDPE is defined by a density of greater or equal to 0.941 g/cc. Redco™ HDPE has a low degree of branching and thus stronger intermolecular forces and tensile strength. Redco™ HDPE used in products and packaging such as milk jugs, detergent bottles, margarine tubs, and garbage containers. Redco™ Polyethylenes are classified into several different categories based mostly on its density and branching.
